There is a need for effective gun management to prevent theft and sale of guns to criminals, Gun
Free SA (GFSA) says. And that, according to researcher Claire Taylor, would prevent gun violence
plaguing communities. On Tuesday, Taylor launched the report, The State of the Central Firearms
Registry in South Africa: Challenges and Opportunities, which explores the feasibility of outsourcing
the country's Central Firearms Registry through, among others, an independent record-keeping
system. Taylor speaks to Phemelo on how gun violence has become the leading cause of violent
crimes in the country.
