Kusini to equip communities with water skills, unlock economic opportunities

A Fourways-based enterprise provides water treatment facilities to rural settlements while providing jobs to unemployed youth across the country. Kusini Water is a social enterprise that builds water treatment systems from nanotechnology and locally sourced macadamia nutshells to provide clean drinking water to people.

The company’s employment initiative, The Kusini Water Champions is a skills development programme aimed at unemployed young people in the country. The programme gives technical training to young people, primarily unemployed women, to gain the skills and national qualifications in the basics of water technology and treatment. Since its launch, the programme has trained 90 water champions and built seven water kiosks across the country, and now the 6th annual Gauteng Kusini Water Champions boot camp will be held in June.
